Village holiday home South West France – Villa de la Theze is an elegant villa with private pool in a quintessential French village, just a few minutes’ walk from the bakery. Set within a small group of houses, the villa is built in the local stone and retains many original features: it has recently been renovated to provide a modern, bright and comfortable home. In summertime everyone will love the large pool and the poolside terrace with its retractable awning - ideal for lazy lunches or sophisticated dining.
Villa de la Theze is located in the heart of the Lot department, a mostly rural area of France, still unspoilt and filled with hidden gems at every turn. Nearby towns such as Prayssac and Gourdon have been awarded the national station verte label indicating their status as unspoiled destinations. There are many medieval bastide villages to see such as Montpazier, but don’t miss the larger towns such as Cahors and Figeac, which have their own atmosphere and charms. The Dordogne river and the towns of Sarlat and Domme, along with the important cliff-top pilgrimage site of Rocamadour, are also within easy reach for day trips. You might like to visit some of the many cave systems in this region which are known for their spectacular rock formations or prehistoric wall paintings (Pech Merle or Gouffres de Padirac), or even to try cave-diving.
The local food is hearty and generous: the typical produce of the area around this holiday home in village South West France includes garlic, walnut oil, wild mushrooms and chestnuts, with goose, duck and chicken forming the basis of many dishes. There are many regular gourmand (and antique) markets in nearby villages where you will be able to select the freshest of produce: in the summertime some markets are held in the evenings.

This is a lovely house and in such a good location with the village and its amenities on your doorstep. It’s a great base if you want to get to know the surrounding countryside, villages, bastides and towns. I particularly like visiting Cahors, which has a lot of good restaurants such as Le Chantilly and Le Bordeaux, both on the main street. There is a superb atmosphere there on market day (Saturday). Locally of course you have the market at Prayssac, as well as swimming and canoe trips on the River Lot. A lovely rural area.
